Ironman Hawaii Results

It was another fantastic year of racing in Hawaii, with the Ironman World Championship wrapping up at midnight on Oct 8th. SaltStick athletes were out in full force, sporting the SaltStick dispensers on their bikes (saw many rolling into transition on Friday before the race), and on race day, it was clear there were lots of athletes using the SaltStick Caps- I saw that personally as well as a bit of litter on the ground, including some of the new green-white SaltStick Caps Plus product.

Craig "Crowie" Alexander won his 3rd World Title and credits SaltStick for helping get him to the finish line and the win. There's an interesting little interview just posted here on Everyman Tri

TransRockies Race- Team SaltStick Rocks

The 2011 Gore-Tex TransRockies Trail Run in Colorado came and went last week with another solid run by SaltStick.com athletes Jonathan Toker and Howard Cohen. In other news, it's been a very busy and successful early 2011 season for SaltStick athletes, with too many race wins to list!

Eduardo "Eddie" Sturla - won his 4th Ironman title in Brazil and has won the most times at this event.

Conrad Stoltz and Melanie McQuaid continue their winning ways with multiple XTERRA off-road triathlon wins around the world.

Triathlete Andy Potts won the 70.3 Oceanside race in a hotly contested event.

Ironman Hawaii and Maui XTerra World Championship Results

October 2010 was a record-setting month for SaltStick athletes, with wins at BOTH the Ironman Hawaii World Championships AND the Maui XTerra World Championship events.

Chris "Macca" McCormack won his second World Champion title on Oct 9th, and Conrad Stoltz claimed his 4th XTerra Triathlon World Championship title on Oct 24th.

Macca uses the SaltStick dispensers on his Specialized Shiv racing bike, filled with SaltStick Caps. During the Ironman Kona event, Macca used about 10 capsules during the 112 mile bike leg, and several more during the run segment.

Conrad has used SaltStick Caps for the past several years and countless race wins. He usually opens the capsules into his water bottle to fortify his sports drink and ward off cramping.

In addition to Macca and Conrad, many other athletes have had incredible races in Kona and Maui. Here are some of their performances:

Jordan Romero summits Mt. Everest

EVEREST SUMMITED, May 22 0945hr China time

Jordan Romero, age 13, became the youngest ever to summit the tallest mountain on earth, at over 29000' tall, his successful record-breaking summit bid took place during a short weather window in May. Jordan has been very busy since his return to the USA, as the media frenzy has amplified but his real achievement was his successful summit attempt.

Can you run 50 miles a day in every US State?

Lisa Batchen-Smith undertook the project "Running Hope Through America" to help raise funds and awareness for orphan children. From April 19th to June 19th, 2010, Lisa Smith Batchen, one of the world's premier ultra-runners, will be the first person to attempt to run 50 miles in each of the 50 states. That's 2500 miles of running over just 60 days!

SaltStick is along for the run, and has become a necessary part of Lisa's nutrition and hydration plan. In the words of her support team: " 50 miles in 23 very hot, humid states has required a constant intake of SaltStick. Jordan Romero at North Col/Camp 1 and ready for Everest Summit!

SaltStick-sponsored athlete Jordan Romero, age 13, continues his quest for the 7 Summits. Jordan has ascended from "Advanced Base Camp" and today is at the North Col/ Camp 1. Based on the weather, he plans to summit Mount Everest over the NEXT FEW DAYS. By doing so, he will be the youngest person to ever summit the mountain, and after his planned ascent of a mountain in Antarctica, will be the youngest to complete the 7 summits.

Howard and Jack's Desert Race in OZ

SaltStick athletes Howard Cohen and Jack Fierstadt just completed the grueling 6-day self-supported desert run in Australia's Kimberly area. Jordan continues his quest for the 7 Summits and in just one month Jordan is scheduled to head to Mt. Everest, the biggest challenge a 13-year-old has ever been brave enough to take head on. Unfortunately, this amazing quest has come at one of the toughest ever financial times. Getting to the mountain has proven to be an even bigger challenge than the actual climb.

As a group, Jordan's Summit Club Sponsors (including SaltStick) have contributed over $10,000 (over the past 3 years) and made it possible for Jordan to travel to 6 continents and set 4 world records. It's been amazing and it's your support that not only gets Jordan to the base of the mountains, but also to the summit as he knows in his heart that all of you are with him every step of the way.

Jordan Romero Summits Carstensz Pyramid, Papua-Irian Jaya-Indonesia, Sept 2, 2009

The American Team of Paul Romero, Karen Lundgren and 13-year old Jordan Romero made it to the summit of Carstensz Pyramid. The 4,884 m (16,024) Mt. CARSTENSZ PYRAMID the highest peak of Australia – Oceania in Papua Island, Indonesia. This is Jordan's 6th summit of climbing the tallest peaks on each continent. Jordan's 7 Summits Youth Challenge

Local youth mountaineer and SaltStick athlete, Jordan Romero, is on his way to climbing the World’s 7 Summits. He wants to share his experience with other youth and so created the 7 Summits of Big Bear Youth Challenge.

Team SaltStick.com is proud to toe the line on Sunday, Aug 23rd for the start of the Gore-Tex TransRockies 6-day stage running race. This 112 mile event is in its third year and attracts some of the top trail runners in the world. 150 teams of two will compete for $20,000 in prize money.

The SaltStick.com team consists of Jonathan Toker, 34 and Leor Pantilat, 26.

Leor Pantilat is an adventure runner and trail runner from San Carlos, CA, originally from Sammamish, WA. Winner of the 2009 Way Too Cool 50k, two-time winner and course record holder of the Golden Hills Marathon, winner and course record holder of the Quicksilver 25k, and winner of the 2008 Skyline to the Sea 50k. Holder of fastest known times on Mount Olympus (WA state) and numerous other peaks in the Washington Cascades and Sierra Nevada mountains. 2009 goals include the Ohlone 50k and adventure runs of the Ptarmigan Traverse (WA state) and peaks in the Palisades subrange of the Sierra mountains.

Jonathan Toker is a Ph.D. chemist and elite triathlete and trail runner originally from Montreal, Canada. Jonathan developed the SaltStick capsules and dispenser products from 2002-2005 and continues to enjoy running the business and seeing the SaltStick products in use and winning races around the world. As an athlete, Jonathan has won many trail races in Southern California and raced in the 2008 edition of the TransRockies with teammate Chris Clarke to finish 6th overall in the open men's division.

Drug-Free Sport Blog

Inbounds Athletics has started a blog that deals with drug-free sport, and the athletes who support these efforts. SaltStick at Ironman World Championships Oct. 11th, 2008

The annual championship to the worldwide Ironman series takes place this Saturday, Oct. 11th, 2008 in Kona, Hawaii. The 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike ride, and 26.2 mile marathon is sure to test every athlete to their limit. Last year's winner, Chris "Macca" McCormack will be wearing #1 and has stated that he's ready to defend his title. Macca has been an avid SaltStick athlete for 3 years and the capsules have been instrumental in helping Macca avoid muscle cramping that plagued his early Kona races. Race bib #2 will be worn by none other than Craig "Crowie" Alexander, who was runner-up last year. Crowie is also an avid SaltStick fan and depended on the dispenser and caps in 2007 comes into this race with high hopes for a strong showing in 2008.
